Foraging Origins

We’re excited to have Foraging Origins coming on Saturday 26th October (2 - 4.30pm) to run an introductory foraging course with a difference. You'll be led by experienced guides who have in depth knowledge of the ancient history of the local area.

• Wild food identification and preparation  • Natural navigation techniques  • A chance to 'walk with our ancestors' and reconnect with ancient knowledge • A Mesolithic history overview of the area surrounding Damson Hill • Foraging goodies bag included

Foraging Origins was born from its parent company Venture to Victory as a natural progression to the many adventurous fundraising expeditions set up by owner and British Army veteran, Simon Ford.  Simon has run survival challenges taking teams unsupported across the Arctic Circle and the Sahara Desert, challenges across the wilderness of Europe and the UK as well as kayaking 400 miles solo around Wales for charity. Simon has a passion for survival in the most challenging of conditions, whilst being respectful of the history and nature of his surroundings. His most recent foraging adventure is a Ben Nevis to Loch Ness canoe challenge with wild camping thrown in to stop his team from getting too comfortable!

Simon has an expansive knowledge of the flora and fungi/funga across the UK, but with a foot in the past as he views the landscape through the eyes of our ancient ancestors. His courses are not typical foraging courses; they also give an understanding of how your landscape would have been used by ancient humans thousands of years ago whilst gaining an understanding of the most interesting uses and potential dangers within ecosystems on your doorstep.

Every course that Simon runs through Foraging Origins has a link to these ancient origins and places this history firmly in the context of our prehistoric lineage, bringing ancient skills right up to the present day.

We’re expecting spaces to sell pretty fast so if you fancy joining, keep an eye on our social media for announcements.
